4.1.1 Understanding what settings are available
When you set up a Mif2Go conversion project in FrameMaker, and no configuration file is present in the project folder, Mif2Go creates a file for you. Initially this configuration file contains only the following:
• settings that have non-default values
• settings that are commonly altered.
Copy settings from configuration references
Hundreds more settings are available; all are listed and annotated in the following references:
You can copy settings, and even whole sections, from either reference.
For print RTF and WinHelp output, you can specify most settings within FrameMaker, via Mif2Go plug-in dialogs. However, to change certain settings you must edit the configuration file directly. See §E RTF configuration for an annotated list of all the options you can specify for RTF and WinHelp output.
For HTML, XML, and HTML-based help output, you must edit the configuration file to specify most settings. See §F HTML/XML configuration for an annotated list of all the options you can specify for HTML, XML, and HTML-based Help output.
It is best not to remove settings from your configuration file; you might not know you needed a setting until something breaks, much later. To experiment with eliminating a specific effect, you can "comment out" a setting by inserting a semicolon at the beginning of the line.
Export dialog can change some settings
When you run a Mif2Go conversion, the Export dialog (see §3.7 Choosing final conversion options) allows you to change certain configuration settings. These changes are saved in the configuration file, and they remain in effect until changed again. Table 32-1 lists the settings subject to change at run time.
