What Mif2Go Does |
Mif2Go: FrameMaker MIF to HTML, XML, Help, and Word Omni Systems’ Mif2Go filter is based on Omni’s proven DCL technology. We’ve been shipping DCL filters commercially since 1993, to an increasing group of satisfied customers. The preceding version of the filter, then called mif2rtf, was well known as the most effective way of producing RTF for Word and WinHelp available at any price. With Mif2Go, we extended that capability to give you the HTML and XML outputs you have always wanted, affordably. The filter runs best on Windows NT-based systems (NT4, Win2K, XP, Vista); the older Win 9x/ME is also supported, but Mac and UNIX are not available at this time. • Single sourcing is basic to our design, so that you can use FrameMaker to produce print documentation, Web pages, XML, HTML Help, JavaHelp, OmniHelp, WinHelp, and Word review copies on demand from the same source files. You eliminate all the maintenance headaches by eliminating any post-processing cleanup; the files we produce don’t need it. Ever. • The HTML/XML output is created the way you want it, with numerous settings to handle your conversions accurately and automatically. You can use our HTML Macros in many different places and ways, even as building blocks, without complicated programming. (We do provide a Turing-complete macro language that will generate any output you can think of.) And we fully support the Web Accessibility Initiative in a very automated way. • The RTF output continues to give you the reliability and ease you have come to know in mif2rtf. Compare it to Frame’s native output, and you’ll see why it’s so popular. Use it with the free Microsoft Help Compiler, as described in Compiling WinHelp, and save yourself the cost of an additional HAT (Help Authoring Tool). • You can operate the Mif2Go filter from within FrameMaker, just by picking an item on the File menu. It’s as simple as Save As. You can also run it from the command line, so you can use it in batch and automated processes. • Look at the Mif2Go documentation for details on how it works.
