HTML Production |
Omni Systems has created an HTML/XML output filter that does the same sort of excellent job that our RTF customers have come to expect and depend on. We’ve put many, many years of development work into it. We do not think that any product out there, at any price, does a better job. The Mif2Go filter produces generic HTML that will work with any browser; CSS is optional, but well supported. The HTML validates to the 4.01 Transitional DTD, and the CSS also passes the W3C validator without error. We fully support XHTML 1.0, which validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. XHTML is XML that uses the HTML tag set (or most of it), and adopting it is an excellent way to start getting into the XML world without losing your compatibility with the existing HTML browsers. You can also produce regular XML 1.x with your own tag set, and OASIS DITA XML. The filter can be set to produce the HTML needed for MS HTML Help, including all files (the project .hhp, the TOC .hhc, the index .hhk, the alias .hha) and special support for secondary windows. We generate JavaHelp as well, including Oracle’s version of it, also producing all files for it. And we have also created our own open-source cross-platform cross-browser system, OmniHelp. We are committed to supporting every new Help system that is commercially viable, including any new XML ones as they emerge. For more details about specific Help support, see our User’s Guide. As with the RTF, the Mif2Go filter is controlled by an .ini file, in this case mif2htm.ini. You make changes in settings using a text editor such as Notepad. The filter automatically turns FrameMaker cross-references and hyperlinks into HTML links; you can map the referenced file names as you wish (the default is the same name in lower case with an .htm extension). You can use either character formats or just colors to mark the span of your hyperlink hotspots. You can put a <hr> (rule) at page breaks, or ignore them. Your footnotes go at the end of the HTML page, with jumps generated to each of them. The Mif2Go filter has many special features to support particular HTML requirements: | ||||
