DCL What is DCL? |
DCL: Industrial Strength File Filters Document Coding Language (DCL) programs convert documents produced by one application into a form usable by another application. DCL preserves almost all formatting, including advanced features such as autonumbers, tables, index markers, headers and footers, and graphics. DCL provides a modular, extensible method for describing compound documents. Omni Systems’ extensive practical experience in creating document filters has led to the creation of a document filtering system that is efficient and easy to understand. DCL provides a common document format for programs that need to work with files from many sources. It permits such programs to operate on only one format, DCL, regardless of the original source program format or the desired target format. This makes DCL especially useful as an intermediate language for programs that convert documents from one word-processor or desktop-publisher program format to another. The DCL language itself is free. Omni Systems has placed it in the public domain, so that anyone who wants to can develop and sell DCL-based filters, royalty-free. We are happy to consult with those interested in doing this. | ||||
