Hi Mike

With a scanned doc I will use the Frame spelling checker.
First verify or set your document smart quotes with
[ Format > Document > Text Options]
then use
[ Edit > Spelling Checker... ]
click in [ Options ] and set [ Find ... Straight Quotes ]
and then [ Start Checking ]
